The Chicago Bulls have made no mystery of their intentions over the past couple of years. They’ve gone all-in pursuing impact veterans who can aid them in their quest to return to NBA title contention.
Last year, they made a big trade for Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline. Last summer, they acquired DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso in free agency.
The results were predictable: the Bulls were solid, but they were not credible NBA championship contenders. A first-round exit at the hands of the Bucks reinforced that point.
This summer, they’ll have questions to answer. Most of them start with Zach LaVine. He’s probably their best player, and he’s due to hit unrestricted free agency. If he doesn’t re-sign, all of those efforts will have been in vain.
