The 2022 Eastern Conference Finals matchup is officially set and will be getting underway tonight. The No. 1 seed Miami Heat will be hosting the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics in what could be a throwback matchup to 90s basketball with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line.

Both teams find success based on their defense, as they have suffocated their opponents throughout the postseason. The Heat defeated the Atlanta Hawks in the first round in five games, neutralizing Trae Young and easily handling business.

In Round 2, they faced off with the Philadelphia 76ers. They took full advantage of Joel Embiid being hampered, winning in six games. They were also able to hold James Harden in check, as the former MVP only had one big game.

The Celtics had what many throughout would be the best first-round matchup with the Brooklyn Nets. Boston made sure that the Nets didn’t gain any momentum in the series, as they swept the title favorites coming into the season.

In Round 2 they faced a stiffer test from the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets did nothing to prepare Boston for the series against Milwaukee, as they were bludgeoned early in the series. But, they recovered and eventually won in seven games.

The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics faced off in the Eastern Conference Finals in the Orlando Bubble in 2020 with Miami advancing onto the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. Will there be a repeat performance this year, or will the Celtics exact some revenge and get over the hump?

This will be a hard-fought series and the winner will have earned their spot to play for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Here are five things to watch for during the series against the Eastern Conference powerhouses.
