Making the Case: Washington Wizards

It seems odd that the team sending away one of the best players in the league can benefit from the trade. That is what would be happening with the Washington Wizards because of the time that they have spent with Bradley Beal in the franchise. This is not a negative thing.

Beal made an impact immediately upon coming into the league and has improved as a scorer to this point of his career. With that being said, the Wizards seem to be going in a different direction and Beal is not the long-term player he used to be.

The duo of Beal and John Wall used to be as good as it got in the Eastern Conference. The two were unable to deliver a title to Washington and Wall began struggling with injuries. This led to the Wizards moving his contract but decided to hang onto Beal.

The original thought was to put players around him and hopes of winning but they have been unable to do that over the years.

If Kuzma and Porzingis are the centerpiece players moving forward, adding some more talent and depth in the rotation is not the worst idea. All three players coming back in this deal — Paul, Mann, and Kennard — have experience playing for a win-now team in the West. They would be able to step in and contribute to Washington right away.

The point of this deal is not to shed contract or move Beal because of his place in the franchise. At the end of the day, it is a business decision that the Wizards might have to make if they want to set themselves up for the future.
