Making the Case: Atlanta Hawks
There was always a strange feeling between John Collins and the Atlanta Hawks, but the two sides finally got a contract extension done. However, just because a deal was made, does not mean he will stick around as a long-term piece.
Ultimately, the Hawks could choose to move one versatile big man for another. When healthy, Anthony Davis is one of the best, if not the best, centers in the league. He is an elite rim protector, can guard out in space, and provides an all-around scoring threat.
Pair Davis with Trae Young along the perimeter and the Hawks could be in business. Davis could act as a pick-and-roll big with Young along the perimeter and make Atlanta difficult to defend. His athletic ability to roll to the basket and finish at the rim or pop out to the three-point line makes him quite lethal.
When looking at what they would have to give up, the Hawks would match salaries with John Collins and be able to get rid of Kevin Huerter’s contract, which has three years left on the deal. One first-round pick is a small price to pay for a player like Davis.
