1. PG Monte Morris, Denver Nuggets
If the New York Knicks do only one thing this offseason, let it be filling the starting point guard spot. A point guard has been a need in New York seemingly forever. Last season, they thought they had it worked out with Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose, but things didn’t pan out as they had hoped.
They cannot go into this season without a bonafide starting option. Immanuel Quickley is certainly an option, but he looks best as a combo guard off the bench that can fluctuate between lead facilitator and scoring guard.
A lot of people will look toward free agency and Jalen Brunson as the answer to the Knicks’ needs. But, they do not have the cap space to outright sign him and the Dallas Mavericks will reportedly not help facilitate moves.
That leaves the trade market. The Denver Nuggets are where the Knicks should place their first call, as Monte Morris would be an excellent target for them. Morris showed that he is more than capable of handling a starting point guard spot, taking over for the injured Jamal Murray this season.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Monte Morris Named Possible Trade Target For New York Knicks
Monte Morris is an efficient scorer with a .481/.394/.830 shooting slash line. He averages 3.7 assists per game in his career and turns the ball over 0.8 times. While not a superstar, Morris would present a sizable upgrade over what the Knicks have had at the position in recent years.
A move for Monte Morris shouldn’t break the bank, leaving enough assets to make another move this offseason. But he would slide right into the starting point guard role, providing Thibodeau with someone he can rely on to get the offense set and run things during crunch time, which was an issue for the Knicks at times this past season.
