Making the Case: Portland Trail Blazers
It never benefits a team on the floor to get rid of their best player, but in this case, the Portland Trail Blazers would be looking at the big picture.
Lillard burst onto the scene for the Blazers quickly after being drafted. He would benefit the franchise as a trade piece as they look to reshape the roster.
The duo of Lillard and McCollum was split up originally because of their inability to get to the next level. The Blazers have underachieved in the postseason and each of the last five years before this one. It was time for the front office to make a change, and that is what happened. They can complete the fire sale by deciding to send Lillard away well.
Horford is not a future piece, given his large contract and veteran experience, but White and Williams have a chance to stick around. White was acquired by the Celtics this year and showed his ability for three-point range. He is a starting-caliber point guard that could act as a bridge in Portland.
