The Boston Celtics turned things around in the second half of the season once they began to buy into Ime Udoka’s game plan on offense. He didn’t want the team to rely on isolation basketball, instead, moving the ball around and getting teammates’ open looks.
It took some getting used to, but once the Boston Celtics began executing it, the results that followed were excellent. They turned into one of the best assist teams in the NBA to go with their improved defense.
It led to the Boston Celtics to earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, getting back to the level of success they had hoped to find with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way. This offseason, they should look to add players that fit that game plan.
Ricky Rubio would be a perfect fit. He would provide more insurance in the backcourt, giving Udoka another playmaker to rely on off the bench. Tatum, Brown, and their teammates would certainly appreciate having that level of playmaking to receive the ball from.

His ball movement and defense are exactly what the Boston Celtics are looking for. His presence would also enable them to play Derrick White off the ball more, taking advantage of his other skills on offense such as his ability to space the floor.
