In recent years, the Mavericks have turned into postseason contenders and were finally able to take the next step. Dallas advanced to the second round this season after eliminating the Utah Jazz. The front office can remain aggressive to put the right pieces around Luka Doncic.

Jalen Brunson might be making himself some money with his recent performance. He took over as the starting point guard this season and scored 16.3 points per contest.

Brunson is entering free agency this offseason and could be a big loss for the Mavericks. Russell might not be a point guard but he is a backcourt piece that could help Dallas right away.

In today’s NBA, a team can never have too many guards, and the Mavericks would have some of the best depth in the league. Russell, along with Doncic, would keep Dallas where they wanted to be in the West.

Doncic is an MVP-caliber player year in and year out. This has been enough to get Dallas to the postseason yearly, and now some more depth can take them to the next level.
