The Minnesota Timberwolves might have taken a step forward this NBA season, but that does not mean that the same cast of characters will be back next season.

After finishing as the seventh seed in the Western Conference this season, the Timberwolves were eliminated in the first round of the postseason. In its playoff series against the Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota blew three fourth-quarter double-digit leads.

They are hoping to become a consistent contender in the West moving forward. Minnesota might have to do this without D’Angelo Russell.

The Timberwolves have been willing to move Russell for over a year now – if they were able to find the right trade partner. Let’s not forget that the Timberwolves were interested in acquiring Ben Simmons before being sent to Brooklyn. Russell would have had to be involved in this deal.
