2. Collin Sexton

The question may not be whether Collin Sexton is the right point guard for the New York Knicks. The question may be, is Collin Sexton a point guard at all?

Not in the traditional sense. During Sexton’s 2020-21 campaign (he missed most of last year), he averaged 24.3 efficient points per game. That’s impressive. He also dished out 4.4 assists to go with 2.8 turnovers per game. We’ll be generous and classify that as “unimpressive”.

That doesn’t mean he’s the wrong fit for this team. Over the last couple of seasons, the Knicks have leaned into Julius Randle as their playmaker. Having a scoring threat like Collin Sexton alongside him should maximize his effectiveness in that role. In today’s NBA, the options are unlimited.

If the Knicks aren’t looking for a playmaker, Sexton might be their man. Pairing him with Randle sounds like a solid strategy.
