4. Ricky Rubio

New York Knicks fans probably won’t shut down 7th Avenue to throw a parade if the team signs Ricky Rubio. He’s arguably no better than Derrick Rose. That’s precisely why he’s ranked fourth on this list.

He does make for a nice tandem with Rose. The two veteran floor generals have significantly different skill sets. Rubio is a better defender and playmaker, while Rose is an overall better scorer, and significantly better floor spacer. The Knicks could split time at the position between the two fairly evenly.

Ricky Rubio’s playmaking would certainly be an asset.

After all, the Knicks ranked dead last in the NBA in assists per game in 2021-22 at 21.9. Having a point guard with the inclination to set up his teammates could add a needed wrinkle to this team’s attack.

Ricky Rubio’s 2021-22 season was cut short by a significant injury. There’s no assurance he’ll be the same player. If the Knicks can stomach that risk, he could be a great target for the New York in free agency this year.

If not, we’ve still got three better options for them.
