Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic’s dominance over the flow of this Mavericks offense is so strong that it’s popularized the phrase “heliocentric offense”. If the Mavericks fall short in the playoffs again, that may become no more than a problem to fix.
Granted, Jalen Brunson’s emergence this year has mitigated the issue. He’s a quality point guard, but his presence alone doesn’t provide Doncic with the support any superstar needs. Adding Conley to the roster may just be enough to gear Dallas up for serious title contention.
Some will point to Spencer Dinwiddie’s presence on the team as a reason to avoid Conley. Respectfully, we disagree. Dinwiddie is a talented player, but his chronic inefficiency from three-point range makes him a problematic fit alongside a primary playmaker like Doncic. Conley’s ability to create space while also making plays when called upon to do so would suit the Mavericks well.

Maybe acquiring him creates a logjam. It still solves more problems than it causes. The Mavericks could look to move one of Brunson or Dinwiddie (preferably the latter), or field a guard-dominant attack. It’s an issue worth sorting out after the fact.
Mike Conley is good enough to make it a problem worth having.
