New Orleans Pelicans
The Zion Williamson era is off to a rocky start in the Big Easy. Nothing could remedy that like improved health from the superstar forward. However, acquiring a player like Mike Conley could be an important second step.
After all, the Pelicans have a clear vacancy at the position. Jose Alvarado had a surprisingly solid rookie season, but the team shouldn’t be relying on him for a full-time starting role yet. Devonte’ Graham is solid, but probably better suited for reserve duties.
As 2021-22 drew to a close, the Pelicans had CJ McCollum starting at the point. He’s a great player, but his natural position likely remains off-guard. If the front office feels similarly, bringing Mike Conley onboard could be the right move.
After all, his ability to function off-ball would be particularly valuable to this Pelicans team. They’re likely to center their offensive attack around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Having Conley as a three-point target when they’re in isolation could make for an unstoppable offense.

Granted, the defense may suffer. Conley and McCollum make for a shakey backcourt in that regard, and Williamson is not known for his stopping power either. To that, we say: who cares? A deal for Conley could put the Pelicans in a position to field one of the league’s best offenses. That’s a time-tested formula for the playoff berth this team desperately needs.
