Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Cam Reddish, G Kemba Walker
New York Knicks Receive: F Dorian Finney-Smith
The last deal aimed to split the difference between a rebuilding New York Knicks club and a competitive one. This deal does the same, but it does it differently.
At 28, Dorian Finney-Smith is arguably too old for a rebuilding timeline. However, the odds are decent that the Knicks would be looking to orchestrate a quick overhaul. If so, they’re getting a quintessential 3-and-D wing here, at the expense of two players they aren’t even using.
Speaking of those two players, the Dallas Mavericks may find some use for Walker. At 31, likely, his prime is over. He could still be a valuable secondary ball-handler, or at least a competent floor spacer. These Mavs are a bit light on guards: rolling the dice on Walker could be worth their time.
Still, Reddish is the big fish for Dallas here. Parting with Finney-Smith hurts, but if Reddish makes good on his potential in a Mavericks jersey, the team will soon forget that pain. In theory, he could be a perfect co-star for franchise player Luka Doncic.

Likewise, Doncic should be good for Reddish. He needs to find a situation where he has responsibilities but isn’t overburdened. With any luck, the Mavericks could offer him a perfect role.
