New York Knicks Receive: F Josh Green, C Boban Marjanovic
Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Cam Reddish
It’s a little challenging to predict the New York Knicks’ course of action this summer. At 37-45, they’ve been one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season. They probably ought to rebuild, but if they are, why would they deal Reddish?
Maybe they’re just not high on him. Reddish is more potential than product at this point, and the Knicks may not be buying it. If that’s the case, it makes good sense to try their hand at 21-year-old Josh Green.
On the other hand, the Knicks may look to retool for a competitive season. We can safely assume that would be Tom Thibodeau’s preference.
In that event, they’ll find a use for Marjanovic. He’s suited for limited minutes, but with his ability to protect the rim, he’ll probably get more burn from Thibs than Reddish did.

Whatever the Knicks aim to do, this deal should satisfy them. It splits the difference, offering them one rebuilding and one competitive piece.
Arguably, they’d like more value for a player of Reddish’s value. When they consider what they parted with to acquire him, they’ll be forced to reconsider that position.
Until Reddish silences his critics, he simply won’t command a much heftier price.
