2. Kevin Durant Sets NBA Play-In Scoring Record
Coming into the season, many people pegged the Brooklyn Nets as the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. They had one of the most talented Big 3’s that have ever been constructed in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, but things didn’t pan out as well as they had hoped.
Irving was only eligible part-time because he did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Durant suffered a knee injury that knocked him out for multiple weeks, which ultimately seemed to lead to Harden looking for a trade out of Brooklyn.
Irving is cleared to play now and with him on the court with Durant, the Nets have been an incredible offensive team. That will be on full display in their matchup against the Cavaliers, who are struggling recently on the defensive end.
Last year, Jayson Tatum had the highest-scoring performance in a Play-In Game, pouring in 50 points against the Washington Wizards. This year, Durant will reset that mark, scoring at least 55 on the Cavaliers to lead the Nets to a victory.
