2. David Fizdale
One person with some head coaching experience that may be under consideration for the job is David Fizdale. Fizdale is currently an assistant on Frank Vogel’s staff, coaching the team when Vogel was sidelined because of being placed in the league’s health and safety protocols.
Fizdale had a strong head coaching debut with the Memphis Grizzlies but lost a power struggle. His tenure with the New York Knicks was disastrous, as the team was not competitive a majority of his time on the sidelines.
However, he is a potential candidate because of his relationship with LeBron James. The two worked together during James’ tenure with the Miami Heat and developed a good relationship.
Fizdale has a reputation as a player’s coach and is someone that could appease James and keep him in Los Angeles long-term.

Elevating a person from the current coaching staff is always a risk, but Fizdale is someone that could fit the bill of what the Los Angeles Lakers are looking for. But, he may not represent enough of a change from what has been a disastrous 2021-22 season.
