Myles Turner & Malcolm Brogdon Remain Top Trade Candidates

Myles Turner and Malcolm Brogdon will both enter the offseason as potential trade targets around the league, but unlike Brogdon, who is under contract for the next three seasons, Turner is going to be entering the final year of his contract once the offseason begins.

Set to make $18 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2023, Myles Turner will be the best defensive player available in the offseason.

Many expected Turner to be on the move ahead of the NBA trade deadline this season, but with him suffering what turned out to be a season-ending foot injury, not many teams in the league were willing to give up a ton of assets for him, hence why Indiana held onto the now 26-year-old big man this season.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Pacers were searching for either two first-round picks or a promising young player and a first-round pick in exchange for Myles Turner before he got hurt this season.

Recently, Scotto talked with Pacers beat writer Scott Agnes about the Pacers’ future heading into the offseason and Agnes had the following to say about Turner potentially being on the move:

“He’s young enough that he should be entering his prime. He’s at his utmost confidence. I think we know who he is as a player and what he provides. However, he wants a greater opportunity, specifically offensively. He was going to get that at the trade deadline when the Pacers finally decided to move on from Domantas Sabonis. My belief going into next season is you either have to trade or extend him. You’re not going to bring him back entering the final year of a contract. I doubt that would happen. I guess you could still trade him at the trade deadline. My current thinking is they’ll bring him back coming off an injury, and they’ll finally be able to see what he looks like with the new face of the team in Tyrese Haliburton.”

Trading Myles Turner in the offseason is certainly a move we could see the Pacers make, especially since they have been rumored to be interested in trading him for years now.

Leading the league in blocked shots during the 2018-19 season and the 2020-21 season, Turner has cemented himself as one of the best shot-blockers in the entire league and an All-Defense caliber center.

As for Malcolm Brogdon, his situation is a little different with the trade deadline arrival of Tyrese Haliburton. Since coming to Indiana, Halliburton has been the clear-cut leader of this offense and is only going to get better leading the Pacers backcourt.

Set to make $67.6 million over the next three seasons, Malcolm Brogdon is not as attractive of a trade target as Myles Turner given that he is under contract long-term, but he has still proven his worth when on the court this season.

Being a threat offensively with or without the ball in his hands, as well as being a factor defensively, Malcolm Brogdon came to the Pacers as a high-level backcourt threat and is still this player at 29-years-old.

Injuries have been a concern for Malcolm Brogdon over the course of his career, but when healthy, he is a difference-maker on the floor and could be a prime trade target for the New York Knicks in the offseason, who pride themselves on the defensive-end of the floor and are in desperate need for a new point guard.
