Explore Opportunities In Frontcourt
Should the Golden State Warriors bring back Kevon Looney on a new deal in free agency, they will really need to evaluate James Wiseman’s long-term future in this league, as the young center will be entering the third year of his contract with tons of question marks.
James Wiseman has sat out the entire 2021-22 season so far recovering from a meniscus tear suffered near the end of last season and he has constantly suffered setbacks, which is why he is not back on the floor yet.
With swelling continuing to occur in Wiseman’s right knee and the center not expected to return before the playoffs now, Golden State could enter the offseason with the mindset of exploring trade opportunities for the former No. 2 overall pick.
Set to make $9.6 million next season, James Wiseman is taking up a small chunk of the Warriors’ total payroll compared to the contracts of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, but this “dead money” in a sense could be utilized to add depth elsewhere.

Leveraging Wiseman while they can in the offseason may pay off big time for the Warriors, especially if they are able to add a high-level center like Myles Turner to replace James Wiseman.
The Golden State Warriors are not actively looking to trade Wiseman and they have been very against doing so dating back to last offseason, but the idea of moving on definitely has to be prevalent in the minds of GM Bob Myers and the front office.
