Heading into the offseason, one of the biggest challenges the Dallas Mavericks will have to navigate is the fact that they will have no cap space and will likely be over the tax line entering the offseason.
They gave Dorian Finney-Smith a big contract extension recently, but the Mavericks still have interest in bringing back Jalen Brunson on a new, big deal, which could limit their ability to add another big contract through a trade.
Buddy Hield is owed $20.5 million next season, followed by $18.6 million during the 2023-24 season, meaning that the Mavericks would have to give up at least one big contract they currently have on their roster to bring in Hield.
In terms of talent though and what he could do for the Mavericks’ offense, Hield is the perfect trade target for Dallas entering the offseason because of his ability to score from the perimeter.

Luka Doncic can run the offense for the Dallas Mavericks and control everything for them, but they will need to surround him with the necessary talents that can succeed playing off-the-ball and having another player create scoring opportunities for them.
The Mavericks have some players like this, but they need more and Buddy Hield can do a little bit of everything offensively to help this team.
As for Indiana, they look like a somewhat rebuilding team right now and while they may be wanting to “reboot”, they should be more than happy to move Hield for some other young, future assets.
Josh Green is a young wing with two-way potential that the Indiana Pacers could utilize in many different roles and Davis Bertans would replace Buddy Hield’s three-point shooting production.
