One of the first trades that was completed this NBA season was between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks acquired Cam Reddish, Solomon Hill and a future second-round pick in exchange for Kevin Knox II and a future first-round pick via the Charlotte Hornets.
Reddish had requested a trade from the Hawks hoping to land with a team that would provide him a chance at more playing time and an expanded role in the offense. From that perspective, the Knicks were not an ideal landing spot.
New York had its rotation set and didn’t part with a rotation player in Knox. As a result, Reddish sat on the bench at the beginning of his tenure with the team as Tom Thibodeau didn’t adjust the rotation to accommodate him. It created some friction between Thibodeau and members of the front office who wanted to see Reddish play.
Eventually, Reddish got into the lineup out of necessity because of injuries to other players in the lineup. Once he was receiving consistent playing time, he was beginning to have an impact as another player that could create for himself and get to the basket.
