Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

Trading Jerami Grant has long been a potential move for the Detroit Pistons and as mentioned earlier, they explored the idea of trading him at the trade deadline. 

However, the Pistons ultimately decided to keep Grant on their roster not only because he preferred to stay with the team, but because they did not receive an offer containing the value they would like. Detroit was searching for at least one first-round pick over the next two years and a young talent currently on a rookie deal. 

In the offseason, knowing that Jerami Grant is in the final year of his contract, the Pistons could be very willing to move him either right before or during the 2022 NBA Draft, especially if they wind up getting “their guy” with what is projected to be a Top-5 pick in this year’s draft. 

This trade specifically is not the best offer the Pistons can receive for Jerami Grant, but getting another draft pick that could end up being a lottery pick this year would be highly beneficial to a rebuilding squad like the Pistons and Corey Kispert would immediately be a 20-25 minute player in Detroit’s rotations next season.

There is also the option of flipping Kentavious Caldwell-Pope at the same time of this trade or near the trade deadline next season. In the grand scheme of things, this trade allows the Pistons to continue building their young core rather quickly, which is why they could show some interest.
