Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Eric Gordon
Houston Rockets Receive: F Danilo Gallinari, ATL 2023 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected)
Should the Hawks show interest in trading for Eric Gordon, it will almost definitely spell the end of Danilo Gallinari’s time in Atlanta.
Gallinari has not been bad since signing with the Hawks ahead of the 2020-21 season, but his overall production has been somewhat of a disappointment and getting out of the $21.4 million they owe him during the 2022-23 season is ideal for the Hawks.
Houston is rebuilding right now and while Danilo Gallinari would prove no use to them, he would definitely be a potential buyout candidate and is in the final year of his contract, meaning that the Houston Rockets would not be tied down to keeping him long-term.
Best of all, the Rockets would get a “compensation” pick from the Hawks in this trade since they would be doing the Hawks a favor by taking on Gallinari’s contract for next season.

In Atlanta, figuring out things defensively will be key for them to find success on the court, but finding more reliable secondary scorers will be just as important.
Everywhere Eric Gordon has been in his career, he has found success not only as a three-point shooting threat but as an experienced shooting guard that plays hard on both ends of the floor.
Gordon’s experiences contending for championships with the Rockets would be very valuable to a somewhat young Hawks team that does not have much overall playoff experience.

Trae Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter, and Bogdan Bogdanovic all made their first-ever playoff appearances last season with Atlanta, which is why adding veteran guys that know what it takes to win games late in the year makes sense for the Hawks.
Eric Gordon is this kind of player and given his production this season compared to that of Danilo Gallinari’s, he would be an upgrade on both ends of the court for Atlanta at a slightly smaller fee.
