What has happened to the Atlanta Hawks this NBA season?

Just several months ago, the Hawks were fighting to earn a spot in the NBA Finals, as they faced the eventual NBA champion, Milwaukee Bucks, in the Eastern Conference Finals, but now they will be lucky to even claim the 8-seed in the East!

The fact that the Eastern Conference has improved immensely compared to last season definitely has something to do with the decline the Hawks have been on this season, but overall, Atlanta is lacking talent around Trae Young.

Defensively, Atlanta has been a mess this season and while they do rank amongst the better teams in the league in offensive rating, the inconsistencies they have had offensively all year long have directly correlated to their lack of wins.

The Hawks are just 34-35 on the season and whether they make the playoffs or not, the Hawks’ front office will have their hands full in the offseason. looking to add talent to this once championship hopefully group.

Finding another All-Star to pair with Trae Young will be key for the Hawks, but with the lack of starpower in free agency this upcoming offseason, finding ways to improve while opening future cap space will be ideal.

As a result, both Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovic could very much be on the trade block come the offseason and while he is not a high-level talent, Eric Gordon could be a very strong, experienced player for the Hawks to consider trading for.

Eric Gordon is in his 14th NBA season and while he is 33-years-old now, the veteran shooting guard is still proving to be a valuable two-way wing with the Houston Rockets.
