Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
This trade could very well end up making a lot of sense for the Atlanta Hawks to make in the offseason because they would not really lose much in the grand scheme of things.
Kevin Huerter and De’Andre Hunter are two talented, young players, but Huerter’s upside is limited other than being a catch-and-shoot threat on the perimeter and the Hawks currently have a financial problem on their hands.
They are expected to be over the tax line for the 2022-23 season entering the offseason and Hunter is going to be up for a contract extension, adding a little bit more tension to the Hawks front-office in terms of keeping what they have.
At some point, the Hawks are going to have to make a trade for salary relief and they could do so in this trade for Jerami Grant, who is in the final year of his contract.

Should things not work out with Grant, the Hawks could let him become a free agent and they would instantly have $20 million at their disposal, plus they would have more cash to play around with in 2023 free agency with Gallinari’s contract expiring as well.
The big question with making this kind of trade is if Jerami Grant would even want to go to Atlanta, as he is not only looking to maintain his current role of being a primary option but looking for a contract extension as well.
