How This Trade Impacts Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic have a surplus of ball-handlers on the roster and they need to alleviate the logjam this offseason.
Since acquiring Markelle Fultz from the Philadelphia 76ers, they have drafted point guards Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs. Something has to give when it comes to that trio, and Fultz is the one that is on the move this offseason.
No longer the long-term option in the backcourt, Fultz would likely be excited to head to a team in the New York Knicks that he can be the lead playmaker and starting point guard for. Orlando has to be happy about the return for him as well.
Cam Reddish requested a trade from the Atlanta Hawks so that he can find a bigger role on another team. The Knicks have yet to provide him that bigger role, as his playing time only expanded when injuries arose.

With the Magic, Reddish could slide into the starting lineup or be the team’s sixth man. It is the kind of role that he was hoping to find upon leaving the Hawks; he just needed to make a pit stop along the way.
Kemba Walker is acquired along with him to match salary, but he likely won’t be long for Orlando. A buyout being worked out wouldn’t be surprising. The team could also look to flip Walker’s expiring contract into a bigger deal.

Adding Reddish helps balance out the Magic’s roster, giving them a core of Anthony, Suggs, Reddish, Jonathan Isacc, Franz Wagner, R.J. Hampton, Wendell Carter Jr., and potential Mo Bamba to build around. They will also have a 2022 lottery pick to add to the mix.
