The 2021-22 NBA season has been just as bad for the Knicks as it has been for the Kings and New York has not been able to find any stability on their roster.
Between injuries and just simply not having consistent offensive play, the Knicks are 5.5 games back from a play-in tournament spot with 18 games remaining on their schedule.
While it is possible for them to still make the playoffs, it appears that the Knicks will be missing the playoffs just one season after claiming the 4-seed in the Eastern Conference.
Should they keep Julius Randle and RJ Barrett in the offseason, the Knicks will be very aggressive in their pursuit to add more overall talent to their roster, particularly on the offensive end of the floor.

While Richaun Holmes is not a key scoring weapon, he has proven to be efficient offensively, as he has averaged 12.7 points per game and has shot 64.8% from the floor in three seasons with the Kings.
The Knicks do have Mitchell Robinson at the center position, but he is going to be a free agent in the offseason and New York may not want to pay Robinson a lot on a new long-term contract.
Should he want more than the $11.6 million annual average value of Richaun Holmes’ contract, the Knicks could save themselves quite a bit of money by trading for the Kings’ big man.
He would fill an immediate void left behind by Mitchell Robinson and the Knicks could even get out of some other contracts on their roster, freeing up enough cap space to pursue a third All-Star-like talent to pair with Randle and Barrett long-term.
