Luka Doncic Is Amongst The League-Leaders In Scoring

The MVP race in recent years has become a statistical race in which players that are usually amongst the league-leaders in categories finish inside the Top-3 in voting. 

Scoring is a big part of the MVP award race and so far this season, Luka Doncic has been one of the best pure scorers in the league. 

Averaging 27.8 points per game on the season, Doncic ranks 6th in the league in scoring and he has recorded six games this year with 40-plus points, all of which coming since the start of 2022. He ranks tied for 3rd in the league in 40-point games this season and one of the big metrics that Luka Doncic ranks highly in is player efficiency rating. 

Over the years, player efficiency rating has been spot-on with predicting the league’s MVP and so far this year, Luka Doncic ranks 11th in the league in PER.

Since the trade deadline, Doncic has scored 20-plus points in all eight of the Mavericks’ games. Combined, the rest of the players on the Mavericks’ roster have only 7 games with 20-plus points scored. 

He is single-handedly carrying the Mavericks’ offense and there has been no better player in the league in terms of getting to his spots and the free-throw line to score than Luka Doncic. 

Recently named Western Conference Player of the Month after averaging 34.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in the month of February, Luka Doncic has put the rest of the league on notice with his recent play and has the Mavericks very much in the mix for contention in the Western Conference.
