Look At Potential Trades Involving Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner

Since arriving in Indiana in 2019, Malcolm Brogdon has been a key two-way talent in the backcourt for the Indiana Pacers, but he has had some injury concerns the last two seasons and the Pacers do not necessarily have a major need for Brogdon right now after acquiring Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield.

The idea of trading Malcolm Brogdon has been apparent since this season’s trade deadline and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote before the deadline that “rival executives around the league believe the Indiana Pacers will trade Malcolm Brogdon this offseason. …”

The Pacers have made their intentions to “re-tool” instead of “rebuild” very clear, but this does not mean that Malcolm Brogdon is off-the-table in trade discussions around the league.

There are quite a few teams that will be looking for a new point guard in the offseason and while he has been injury prone as of the last few seasons, Malcolm Brogdon is an impactful two-way guard that can really make his presence felt defensively.

Should they make him available, the Pacers could most likely get a return of a young talent and a first-round pick for Brogdon, as well as a salary-filler that they could either waive or utilize in their second rotation.

As for Myles Turner, the Pacers’ big man was expected to be dealt at the trade deadline if he had not suffered a left foot “stress reaction” a week or two prior to the deadline, sources have told NBA Analysis Network.

Now in his 7th NBA season, Myles Turner has continued to prove to be one of the best shot-blockers in the entire NBA and he will be entering the final year of his contract in the offseason, making a very affordable $17.5 million.

The market for centers league-wide is very low, but various teams were showing interest in Myles Turner ahead of his injury this season and that interest will likely come back if he can prove to be healthy either near the end of this season or in the offseason.

The Indiana Pacers could wind up keeping both veteran players at this point, but the return that they could get for both of them near the 2022 NBA Draft could be too much to pass up on, especially if the chance to build a sustainable, young core around Tyrese Haliburton is available.
