3. No Longer An Impactful Player

In his heyday, DeAndre Jordan was an explosive player. He played above the rim offensively as a lob threat, throwing down thunderous dunks on a nightly basis. Jordan was also a very good defender, protecting the rim, and was an excellent rebounder.

However, those days are well behind us. It has been multiple seasons since Jordan was an impactful player. His declining athleticism has turned him into a sieve defensively. With no offensive moves to go to, he isn’t as impactful on that end of the court anymore as he is no longer the higher-flyer he once was.

How bad have things gotten for Jordan recently? He was removed from the Brooklyn Nets’ rotation at the end of the 2020-21 regular season and didn’t play a second for the team in the postseason. That is telling as the Nets lacked size in the postseason, turning to Jeff Green as their center.

He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in a salary dump and subsequently bought out. The Lakers kicked the tires on him, even using him as the starting center at the beginning of the season. It was a role that changed quickly, as Jordan ended up starting 19 games.

It is unlikely that the Philadelphia 76ers will be able to help DeAndre Jordan regain his form down the stretch of this season. His connection to Doc Rivers could be the driving factor in him joining the 76ers.
