New York Knicks

25-36, 12th in the Eastern Conference

Fans going out in the streets of New York City after a Knicks win early on in the season and screaming “BING BONG” seems like forever ago doesn’t it?

The highlights of the 2021-22 NBA season for the Knicks can be summed up in New York’s first six games, R.J. Barrett’s buzzer-beating win against the Boston Celtics on Jan. 6, and Kemba Walker’s triple-double on Christmas Day.

Other than that, this season has been dreadful for Knicks fans to watch, especially after a year in which they claimed the 4-seed, saw Julius Randle go to the All-Star Game and win Most Improved Player, and see their head coach in Tom Thibodeau named Coach of the Year.

The Knicks are just 25-36 this season and now 4.5 games back from the Hawks and Hornets in the standings, their chances of making the play-in tournament at this rate are extremely slim.

New York should not necessarily be panicking about their team’s chances of making the playoffs, as Knicks fans have seemed to come face with a reality that they will not be in the playoff picture this season, but they should be panicked about what the future holds for this franchise.

There are going to be virtually no All-Star talents on the free-agent market for the Knicks to target with their open cap space and this team really has no identity to it right now, especially given how bad they have been defensively compared to last season.

Julius Randle has been playing better as of late, but he has regressed this season and their two signings in Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier really have not worked out too well.

Fournier has stepped up from time to time, but overall, it is hard to view his signing as an overall “successful” move made by this front office.

GM Scott Perry and team president Leon Rose know what they are doing, but the Knicks are facing a critical offseason to get things moving in the right direction again.
