Derrick Favors – Top Landing Spot: Minnesota Timberwolves

Should the Timberwolves look to get involved with the buyout market this season, Derrick Favors is definitely someone that would be their ideal fit as a back-up for Karl-Anthony Towns.

Minnesota was interested in adding another big man and frontcourt option ahead of the trade deadline, but given that they are right at the tax line on the season and did not want to give up any of their young assets, they did not make any moves to change their roster.

Next to Towns right now, the Timberwolves have Jaden McDaniels, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Naz Reid, but they could really use another “bruiser-like” big man like that of Derrick Favors, who can play either the power forward or center positions.

Now in his 12th NBA season, Derrick Favors currently finds himself on the Oklahoma City Thunder, a young team that really does not have much use for Favors anymore.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Buyout Market Takes Hit With Schroder Staying With Rockets

The Thunder have shown a willingness to move on from the veteran big man leading up to the trade deadline and after not getting a deal done involving him, they could opt to buy him out of his contract.

Derrick Favors would supply the Timberwolves with a solid blend of rim protection and rebounding on both ends of the court, two areas that they could definitely improve upon heading into what looks to be their first playoff appearance since 2018.

Next to Karl-Anthony Towns, Favors would provide stability in the frontcourt and allow the All-Star center to focus more on the offensive end of the floor, being the primary scoring weapon that he is for the Timberwolves.

At this time, there is no word on if the Thunder will buy out Derrick Favors, but he is certainly someone that Minnesota should show a level of interest in for the rest of the season, especially since signing him would keep them below the luxury tax line for the season.
