Zion Williamson Could Be On The Move In The Offseason
Arguably the most hyped up talent to enter the league since LeBron James, Zion Williamson was drafted first overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.
Since then though, Zion has played in just 85 total games and could very well miss the entire 2021-22 season due to a mysterious foot injury.
In the offseason, Williamson underwent surgery to repair a broken right foot without the Pelicans knowing. Showing up to media day with a walking boot and crutches, New Orleans did not know what was going on, but quickly began working with Zion Williamson on a rehab program, optimistic that they would have him ready for the start of the season or a few weeks into the season.
Well, the 2021-22 NBA season began on October 19 and we have still not received any word on when Zion Williamson will take the court again.

As far as we know, Zion Williamson has been rehabbing on his own away from the team and is making good progress according to the Pelicans, but recent reports say that the Pelicans’ players have not been in contact with the 21-year-old All-Star.
On TNT during All-Star Weekend, CJ McCollum stated that he has not had conversations with Zion Williamson directly and that he has only talked with some people “close to him.”
“I’ve spoken with some people close to him and I look forward to sitting down with him sooner [rather] than later,” McCollum said. “I know about as much as you do right now but I’m gonna get to the bottom of it.”
Between the Pelicans front-office not giving any word on Zion Williamson, teammates not being able to reach out to him and the on-going discussion about him entering the final year of his rookie contract next season, Williamson could be the key topic of discussion in regards to offseason trade talks.

We will most definitely get a clearer picture on what the future holds for Zion Williamson in New Orleans before the start of the 2022-23 season because of the fact that he is eligible for a max contract extension.
Should he and the Pelicans not agree to a new long-term extension, Zion will be “playing” the 2022-23 season knowing that he is going to be a free agent following the season, which could immediately force a trade on his end of things.
As things have finally started to look good for the Pelicans, they are dragged back down and facing a ton of questions about their future because of Zion Williamson.
