Derrick Favors

The Oklahoma City Thunder were surprisingly quiet ahead of the deadline. Kenrich Williams, Derrick Favors and Mike Muscala were all mentioned as possible trade candidates. Ultimately, the only deal they made was acquiring KZ Okpala from the Miami Heat.

Williams won’t be bought out, but there is a chance that Favors will be. The option that he has for the 2022-23 season will complicate things a little bit, but knowing he would have a chance to join a contender could be enough motivation to work out a buyout.

If Favors is cut loose from the Thunder, he will land with the Philadelphia 76ers. He provides more size than someone like Paul Millsap, as Favors stand 6’9”, weighing 265 pounds. The Georgia Tech product would step right into the role vacated by Andre Drummond being traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Favors will provide the 76ers with steady defense behind Embiid and a little scoring punch from time to time. He is a strong rebounder as well, bringing some of the same qualities that Drummond did to the table, but with more playoff experience.

Any team looking to add a floor-spacing big is praying that Muscala gets bought out. He would be among the most popular buyout candidates if he bit the market with his ability to shoot 3-pointers efficiently.
