Would this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?
The clear-cut priority for the Indiana Pacers is to build the foundation of a championship team. With a backcourt of the future that includes Tyrese Haliburton and Chris Duarte, Malcolm Brogdon doesn’t factor into the equation.
The appeal of moving Brogdon in this particular trade package would be to land a future first round pick. It wouldn’t be a significant return, but moving a player that will be earning $22.5 million in 2024-25 on new contract extension would be the primary appeal.
The Pacers would be landing Larry Nance Jr. ahead of the final year of his contract. He has a very move-able deal that Indiana could capitalize on in a separate trade take on a bad contract for an asset.
Devonte’ Graham is signed through 2024-25 but the final year of his contract features only $2.85 million of his $12.65 million salary being guaranteed. He’s still only 26-years-old, so Indiana could keep him for a bench role for a few years to maximize shooting if they wanted.
