John Wall

The Houston Rockets and John Wall agreed before the season that he wouldn’t get on the floor this season. Houston would work to find a new team for Wall to play on, but that is easier said than done.

Wall has a player option worth more than $47 million next season which no team was interested in taking on without draft pick compensation. Some buyout discussions were held, but those fell apart. Talks about bringing Wall back so that he can play in some capacity also fell apart, so he remains sidelined.

With the trade deadline now past, the only way Wall will get to a new team this season is if buyout talks are held again. Given how those discussions went the first time, it is hard to imagine them going any better this time around.

Ultimately, Wall will not be bought out during the season. He will remain on the Rockets’ bench for the duration of the 2021-22 season, acting as another assistant coach basically.
