The Indiana Pacers made it clear they wanted to shake things up in a major way at the NBA trade deadline. After moving on from Domantas Sabonis and Caris LeVert, the franchise-cornerstones now are Tyrese Haliburton and Chris Duarte—providing a backcourt of the future.
With Haliburton at the point guard spot, Malcolm Brogdon now finds himself in a situation where he already has a contract extension but no longer has a strong outlook with his team before the deal even begins.
There is mutual benefit for Brogdon and the Pacers if the team were to move the veteran point guard to a new team in the offseason. Brogdon could shoulder a major role on a team in need of a point guard while Indiana would be able to gain an asset or two to help further their rebuilding efforts.
Brogdon, who has appeared in just 28 games this season, has struggled to stay available for the Pacers. Unless he returns from his Achilles injury within the next two games and plays in every single remaining game on their regular season schedule, he will have spent each of his seasons in Indiana failing to appear in 60 games within a season.

When Brogdon has been available, he’s been a solid contributor but appears to be filling a role too large for what his skill-set should probably be handling. In 138 games since signing with the Pacers, he’s averaged 18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists while shooting 44.7% from the floor, 35.3% from deep, and 87.4% on free throws.
If the Indiana Pacers were to opt to move on from Malcolm Brogdon in the offseason, here are three teams that should be monitoring his availability.
