Houston Rockets Receive: G Russell Westbrook
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G John Wall, 2027 first-round pick
The fit between Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers just clearly isn’t going to work. At this rate, it’s becoming disappointing to watch a former MVP playing at such a diminished level.
Much of the issue with Westbrook has to do with his current salary. He’s no longer able to bring a major impact without having a lot of fitting pieces around him in the supporting cast. He’s become a liability playing on a supermax contract.
If Westbrook were to be dealt to the Houston Rockets, he could reach a buyout agreement and then sign with a team on a much cheaper deal with better fitting pieces around him.
Again, Westbrook needs to hold himself accountable for his shortcomings. His shooting mechanics have needed work for years and now it’s caught up to him. Still, we’ve seen enough with his Lakers tenure.

John Wall missed two seasons due to injuries and made a triumphant return to NBA action all for him to basically be having to sit out despite being healthy. That’s an unfortunate outcome and it’d be ideal to see him not only playing again, but on a hopeful contender.
