How This Trade Impacts Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons are going nowhere fast this season. They are one of the surefire sellers ahead of the deadline as they will be looking to cash in on some assets and continue setting the franchise up for the future.
The best asset that they have is Jerami Grant, who is atop the wish lists of every contender around the league. In this scenario, they accept a deal from the Miami Heat, but it is hard to imagine they can’t find a better deal elsewhere.
Parting ways with Grant for a trade package that doesn’t include first-round picks or high-upside young players seems unlikely for Detroit. Duncan Robinson is in the midst of his worst shooting season since becoming a rotation player. Max Strus and Omer Yurtseven have shown flashes with their opportunities, but how much better are they than the young players the Pistons already have?
At 27, 25, and 23-years old, Robinson, Strus, and Yurtseven have some upside, but likely not enough to get the Pistons to the negotiating table. Detroit could use some floor spacing around their young players, but there are ways to upgrade their 3-point shooting without parting ways with their best player.

If this is the best offer that the Pistons can get, Grant’s value around the league wasn’t as high as many thought it would be.
