Does this trade make sense for the Brooklyn Nets?
There is absolutely no reason the Nets should want to trade James Harden and if he is frustrated, they should be reassuring him that everything will work out when Kevin Durant returns.
Losing Harden would be detrimental to the Brooklyn Nets as a franchise because of all the future value they gave up to acquire him. Last season, the Nets traded away Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince, Rodions Kurucs, three unprotected first-round picks and four first-round pick swaps for the former league-MVP.
The Nets literally sacrificed their entire future and are left with just four draft picks through 2028 due to trading for James Harden last season. If this experiment with Harden, Irving and Durant only lasts a year, it will be arguably the biggest disappointment in NBA history.
Brooklyn cannot afford to lose Harden at the trade deadline this season and the chances of him being on the move right now still remain fairly low.

However, if a trade like this is being discussed, this is not a “terrible” trade for the Nets. It is bad in the sense that they would be losing Harden and all the future value they gave up to acquire him, but they would at least get one first-round pick back, a three-time All-Star in Ben Simmons that they can still mold how they would like, one of the best three-point shooters in the entire league in Seth Curry and one of the best overall defenders in Matisse Thybulle.
In terms of immediate value to remain a title contender, I guess the Nets would actually make out as good as they possibly could in regards to trading Harden, but they should still have no desire to want to trade James Harden right now.
