Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

James Harden is at the top of the Philadelphia 76ers “wishlist” of potential targets in a Ben Simmons trade and while they were not willing to give up Matisse Thybulle to Houston last season to acquire him, they may finally be willing to do so this season given that Joel Embiid is healthy and playing at an MVP-level. 

The 76ers are good as a team, but their record is directly reflective of what Joel Embiid has done for them. Without him, they are not close to being a contending team and this is something they need to consider this season since Joel Embiid’s workload has been high and he has been prone to injury early on in his career. 

Establishing Harden as their No. 2 next to Embiid gives the 76ers two legit MVP type of talents to play through and contend for a title in the Eastern Conference. Ben Simmons is dead to them at this point and any kind of value is good value at this point in regards to their chances of winning a title. 

Trading Seth Curry, Matisse Thybulle and a first-round pick is a lot of side value to attach with Ben Simmons, but if they can get away with keeping Tyrese Maxey in a trade for James Harden, Daryl Morey could very well pull the trigger on this deal.

This is a dream trade scenario for the 76ers over the course of the next week and they should be willing to make any trade the Nets want for James Harden this season not only to improve their title chances, but hurt the title odds of the Nets in the process.
