Would this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?
After seeing how LaMelo Ball has solidified himself as a legitimate franchise-cornerstone, the Charlotte Hornets are building around him clearly. In doing so, it’s important to have key players that fit his timeline and Gordon Hayward, while a helpful talent, does not.
Hayward was originally signed for four years making $120 million over the duration of the contract. He is in year two of that deal and has continued to miss some games in Charlotte.
There is very little outlook for Hayward to come close to meeting his value on that contract with the Hornets. For a team that has no issue scoring a high-volume of points, a more impactful option would be a center like Myles Turner that can anchor the defense and raise the floor of the group in that area.
Turner is one of the best defensive big men in the league as he has shown over the years. If Charlotte can make this move, they can be taken to the next level on both ends of the floor.

Keep in mind, Miles Bridges is going to need a contract extension and moving on from Hayward would help to position their salary cap spending accordingly. He has emerged as the team’s top wing and the need for Hayward on his deal no longer is present.
