Would this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
It may seem odd for the San Antonio Spurs to give up on Dejounte Murray at such a young age. And that’s because it is. But maybe they don’t think they’ll be able to put together a contending team around him in time, so trading him now would be for the best.
If that were to be the case, this isn’t a terrible package to get back in return. The Spurs would get three young, potential-filled players. Plus, they’d also be getting back three unprotected first-round picks that could end up being pretty valuable.
Obi Toppin was supposed to be a big part of the New York Knicks, but Julius Randle’s emergence sort of kicked that to the side. So getting a fresh start in San Antonio could really help Toppin jumpstart his career. There’s definitely still potential there.
As for Immanuel Quickley, he’s stuck in a fairly jam-packed guard rotation in New York, so again, a move to the Spurs could help. A similar fact could be said about Quentin Grimes. He’s shown flashes of being a great scorer, and San Antonio could tap into that potential.

All three young players the Spurs would be getting have a ton of potential. But none of them have gotten enough opportunities in New York to fully thrive. Combine that with three unprotected firsts, and the Spurs would be getting a decent haul.
