Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
If the New York Knicks could pull this trade off it would give them the franchise point guard they’ve desired for years. The Kemba Walker experiment isn’t working out, but getting a guy like Dejounte Murray would solve a lot of their issues at that position.
Murray would provide a calming presence to the Knicks rotation. Instead of having to have the ball in Julius Randle’s hands at all times, they would have an actual pass-first point guard who could dictate their offense.
Plus, at only 25 years old, Murray fits on any timeline the Knicks wish to pursue. He’s good enough to help them compete in the playoffs right now, but he’s also young enough to be able to grow and thrive with RJ Barrett into the future.
He’s exactly the sort of player Tom Thibodeau wants in his rotations, too. Murray is an elite-level defender who can garbage multiple positions from the point guard spot. He would immediately be the best perimeter defender on the Knicks.

Giving up three unprotected first-round picks for any player is a huge risk, as it could backfire in their faces if it doesn’t work out. However, getting a guy like Murray to pair with Randle and Barrett could completely reshape the makeup of the franchise.
