Compared to what other teams across the league have to offer for Jerami Grant, this seems like a bad trade for the Detroit Pistons, but they have had a level of interest in Marvin Bagley III dating back to the 2018 NBA Draft when he was taken second overall by the Kings.
NBA Insider Marc Stein reported back in November that the Pistons had expressed interest in trading for Bagley and this interest could still exist heading towards the trade deadline.
Marvin Bagley is in the final year of his rookie contract and after not signing a contract extension prior to the start of this season, he is set to become a restricted free agent in the offseason.
While he has missed close to 50% of the Kings’ total games since he was drafted, Bagley is still an impressive looking young talent in the frontcourt that could very well take a big jump during his next contract.

The Kings are open to moving both Bagley and Thompson at the trade deadline this season and adding a player like Jerami Grant is highly advantageous to their chances of finally being relevant in the Western Conference.
Paired up with De’Aaron Fox, Jerami Grant could continue to be one of the “go-to” options for his team and he could be able to get what he wants in terms of a contract extension.
One of the biggest factors in a trade for Jerami Grant this season, should he be traded, is that he wants to go somewhere that he can receive a contract extension that pays upwards of $100M.
