One Perfect Trade Destination For Pistons’ Jerami Grant

Jerami Grant, Detroit Pistons, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Detroit Pistons are coming to a crossroads ahead of the 2022 NBA trade deadline. They have one of the best trade chips that could be made available on the market in Jerami Grant and they have to think long and hard about cashing in on this value.

Grant and the Pistons do not want to part ways, but at the end of the day, it could be what is best for the organization. Detroit is not close to contending and Grant is going to be seeking a big contract extension this offseason.

From a business perspective, handing Grant a four-year, $112 million extension, which he is reportedly looking for from the Pistons, is not a smart thing to do. Grant does not fit the Pistons’ current timeline, so extending him now could prove costly down the line.

There is a chance that Detroit isn’t ready to compete before Grant turns 30-years old, at which point they could be cash-strapped to keep their younger players around. They took a chance signing Grant and giving him a chance to play an expanded role and he took full advantage. Now, it could be time for Detroit to capitalize on that again and land a big trade package for him.
