Would this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?

For the Charlotte Hornets, this trade definitely has its fair share of pros and cons. On the one hand, they’d get an elite third star to put next to their core, but on the other, they’d lose a lot of the depth that’s made them so successful this year.

Starting with the pros, this trade would net the Hornets Ben Simmons. Simple as that. For a team that’s been as abysmal as Charlotte has been on the defensive end this year, adding Simmons to the mix would be a big-time win for them.

He could even play the center position for the Hornets, as that’s a major position of need. Simmons would be one of the most versatile big men in the league and would give LaMelo Ball an elite pick-and-roll partner who can also playmake.

The obvious downside is that they’d have to take on the Tobias Harris contract. Plus giving up Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier, and Kelly Oubre Jr. would absolutely gut the depth of the Hornets. It’d also greatly hurt their shooting from behind the arc.

Would this trade be worth it for the Hornets? That depends on who you ask. Some would say yes because of Simmons’ defensive impact, but others would say no, as they’d rather see the Hornets ride it out with this core. One thing is for sure, though, this trade would be a fun one.
