Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
If they can get a handful of value in a trade for Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavericks would be smart to make a move involving him ahead of the trade deadline. Porzingis’ time in Dallas has been shaky and given all of his injury concerns, it seems unlikely that the 7’3” big man is going to remain in the Mavericks’ long-term plans.
Not to mention, getting out of paying Kristaps Porzingis $101.5M through the 2023-24 season could save the Dallas Mavericks a ton of money, enough actually for them to go out and pursue a second All-Star to pair with Doncic.
Moses Brown poses no real value to the Mavericks right now given all of the talent they have in the frontcourt and while they are high on the potential of Josh Green, the Mavs really have not utilized him much other than when they needed to with guys being out of the rotation due to injuries or health protocols.
This trade with the Spurs gives the Mavericks another reliable guard that is under contract long-term in Derrick White, a young, versatile perimeter player in Lonnie Walker IV, and a key, experienced veteran in Thaddeus Young that can fill Porzingis’ spot in the frontcourt.

Maybe this trade would weaken Dallas’ overall defensive tenacity given that Kristaps Porzingis is averaging 1.8 blocks per game, but the main concern for this team right now is their lack of offensive production outside of Luka Doncic.
For the price of Porzingis and a young talent in Green, this is definitely a trade worth talking about further for the Dallas Mavericks.
