Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
Trading for Kristaps Porzingis could make sense for the Spurs given their need for an All-Star talent and an identity, but trading for Porzingis also brings a ton of liability to San Antonio.
Ever since his knee injury during the 2017-18 season, Kristaps Porzingis has battled durability issues and has had trouble staying on the court for more than 60 games during the season. So far this season, he has missed nearly 34% of the Mavericks’ total games!
The Spurs do need to try and make some moves to add future value to their roster, but Porzingis is not the direction that they should be looking. Keldon Johnson has done a great job as a small-forward/power-forward for this team and Jakob Poeltl has turned himself into one of the league’s most underrated centers.
Figuring out where Porzingis fits into the fold with this young Spurs roster could really hurt their potential future success and Derrick White is not the problem with this franchise right now.

He could surely improve as a three-point shooter and do a couple other things better, but trading some young talents for an injury riddled big man is not the path to success for the Spurs this season or moving forward.
