How This Trade Impacts Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are serious about trying to upgrade their roster in the next few weeks ahead of the NBA trade deadline. In this scenario, they take advantage of some issues arising with the Atlanta Hawks and get John Collins in a deal.
This trade will likely dictate other moves being made down the road. Dallas could have an astronomical tax bill soon which potentially deters them from retaining someone such as Jalen Brunson. But, the Mavericks have to be happy having a core of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis being joined by Collins.
Collins would be an excellent fit alongside Porzingis in the frontcourt as he can play either power forward or center depending on the matchups. He is an efficient player offensively with the ability to consistently knock down 3-pointers.
On defense, Collins had made strides. He has some shot-blocking ability and will help take some pressure off of Porzingis as he is a strong rebounder as well.

The Dallas Mavericks would be selling the Atlanta Hawks on the chance to clean their salary cap space in this deal. In what is essentially a salary dump, the only way Dallas can make a competitive offer is by including multiple first-round picks.
They would be locked into this core for the foreseeable future, but this is a core that could improve as Porzingis is the oldest of the trio at 26-years old.
